D Street Surf Spot
D Street is located in Encinitas in the North County of San
Diego and can be a very, very fun wave! This beach break with a subtle reef
can produce some A+ waves with the correct swell and conditions. This break
is usually moderate in crowd size but full of locals that are looking to
have a good time!
I have surfed D Street off and on for the past 5 years and I
will admit that it has the possibility of being an awesome wave with the
right conditions. I surfed this break one summer morning with about 5 guys
in the water, it was just about chest high and probably one of the best days
of beach break surfing I've yet to have.

D Street is located in Encinitas and can
be somewhat "hidden" if you have you have never been there before or are
looking for this surf spot. The below directions will take you right to the
break with no confusion so please print them out and take them with you.
There are several points to surf at D Street so check the surf before you
paddle out to maximize your session!

The Parking Scenario:
Well, there is no assigned parking lot at
the entryway to D Street. As the road comes to a dead end, there is public
parking on both sides of that road with is actually D Street itself. My
advice is to look around the side streets in the surrounding area, all along
3rd Street, E Street and D Street, there is public parking. Please make
certain not to block somebody's driveway and make sure to look for red curbs
and fire hydrants. i make that certain because a friend of mine received a
ticket for having his car in a fire zone on accident. The bed of his truck
was about 2 feet into the red zone and apparently that was 2 feet too much.
If you are unable to find parking on the
side streets surrounding D Street, you can easily park at
Moonlight Beach and walk South to
D Street. Because Moonlight is equipped with such an ample parking lot, this
may be an easy solution to not finding parking around D Street.

Beach Accessibility and Conveniences:
There are a couple of ways to access the
beach at D Street. The first way is by means of using the D Street beach
access stairs. They are located directly at the end of D Street and are
nearly impossible to miss. You can see them in the middle of the above
picture. The stairs wind down the bluff and onto the beach, they are well
maintained but can often be slippery when wet so watch your step!

The closes public restrooms are located at Moonlight which is
about 2 blocks away. More public restrooms can be found down D Street at the
restaurants and stores. There is a public shower located about a quarter of
the way up the stairs at D Street. It is on the right hand side of the stair
case and feels awesome after a long surf session.
Lifeguard:
There is no Lifeguard tower located at the D Street beach as
of right now, however I do believe they move a tower there during the Summer
seasons. If there is no tower located on the beach, the nearest Lifeguard is
located about 5 minutes North on the beach at Moonlight beach. As always,
please take extreme caution in the water and be considerate of other surfers
and individuals in the water.
